A drizzly morning for packing up to leave Thonnance but not too wet to drive first to the village of Germay to find our first geocache this holiday. It was at a very attractive lavoir (village wash house).

We then travelled south through some other pretty villages and then picked up the autoroute through Burgundy. The rain seemed to follow us and was sometimes really horrible with spray from big vehicles. We stayed the night at a (far more attractive) France Passion - this one at the hillside 'chateau' of a vineyard - Domaine de Virolys. Laurent offered us a degustation of his wines and after an agreeable half hour, we came away with our purchases of his Chardonnay!

Friday 13th May
Another wet morning for journeying, but not quite so many miles to cover today. Once into the Rhone-Alps region the scenery became quite dramatic with the road passing through tunnels and over viaducts which were particularly impressive at Nantua and at Bellegarde-sur-Vaserine. We reached the outskirts of Annecy and joined the traffic queues down and around the centre (apparently always busy) but then we were beside the beautiful lake and came to Camping Au Coeur du Lac at Sevrier. When we were here in the 1980s we camped a lot further south beside the lake - we shall see if we can find that while we are here. We've booked in for 3 nights, so hope the clouds will have lifted in the morning.

We have fond memories of Annecy. We stayed there for my birthday a few years ago on our way to Provence. We had a very hectic Messy Church yesterday - it was messy too with my homemade giant bubble mixture. It took us 45 minutes to get all the soap out of the floor! We hope that the weather clears for you - it is lovely here today, so we are going to stay in the garden. It is the Devon County Show next week, so the weather is bound to change.
