Salbertrand to Maggiore, Italy

Tuesday 17th May

Another beautiful sunny morning - perfect for the drive south beside the lake (passing Lac Bleu, the campsite we stayed at in the 1980s with teenage Peter and Natalie), past Albertville and onto the scenic Autoroute de la Marienne.  If only the M25 looked like this!!
Motorway views:

The Tunnel de Frejus was also lacking in traffic and took 17 minutes to drive through.  The bad news is that the peage cost €57.60!  Half-way through we were in Italy - with 750 miles on the clock (from home).  Soon after, we stopped at Camping Gran Bosco at Salbertrand and spent the afternoon enjoying the sunshine with the clanging of cow bells on the hillside.  (There was also the intermittent sound of a digger as the owner was busy laying gravel to be a base for camping pods that are arriving on Friday!).

It was an unusual site as most of it was cheek by jowel 'dead' caravans with permanent wooden awnings and many complete with garden gnomes, but the area for tourers was 2 grassy fields surrounded by fir trees - we had one of the areas to ourselves until 2 other Brits turned up!  The couple we chatted to used to live in Roffey!

John spent part of the afternoon under the sink again!  He reconnected the ammeter and change-over switch that he'd disconnected yesterday - these were his own modifications that he'd wondered if were causing the problem.  All are working fine now, including the fridge, so it must have been down to a poor supply at Sevrier.

Wednesday 18th May

Good to report that the site shower was one of the best ever - a proper lever rather than the push-on sort (that turn off again after a few seconds) and lovely hot water.  This morning we moved on, via the autostrada around Turin to Camping Village Maggiore between Dormelletto and Arona.  When we came to Lake Maggiore 2 years ago, we didn't explore this area, so we'll stay a couple of days.
